Created in 1970 in the United States, Shurgard is a Belgian company, a self-service storage operator present in 7 European countries: France, Netherlands, Great Britain, Sweden, Germany, Belgium and Denmark. Its centers are secure and under video surveillance. The company emphasizes security, easy accessibility and customer service, thus meeting the varied storage needs of its private and professional customers.

Shurgard opened its first center in Europe in 1994 in Belgium. The company is listed on the Brussels Stock Exchange on October 15, 2018. In May 2020, the company carried out an external growth operation in France and acquired 2 Flexistockage sites in the Paris region. A second operation took place in Germany the same year with 4 sites in Munich with Zeitlager.

In 2021, Shurgard makes 2 other acquisitions in London: CitySpace Self Storage and A&A Self Storage, which adds 5 additional storage centers to its portfolio. Shurgard buys a center from CityStore Self Storage in May 2022.
